The idea behind this project was to create a ritualistic experience or event within the Non Conformist Chapel in Sheffield General Cemetery. Although I had initial hesitations towards the site this project allowed me to explore the different birthing rituals we've had throughout the centuries and allowed me to discover the most effective way for a person to give birth (Fun Fact, it isn't lying down) and then design and develop a facility that would implement this technique as well as create an experience that is solely based on the birth givers needs and wishes. I decided to create a birthing centre that would allow its user to have a water birth without the worry of limited equipment or a birthing pit in line with the recommended birthing technique.
